A prehistoric bloodsucking creature is making a comeback in a Sussex river.

Lampreys have been spotted in the River Ouse, which runs through Lewes and Newhaven.

The reappearance of the marine animal, once the favourite food of King Henry VIII, has been put down to the waterway becoming cleaner.

Conservationists say the proposed idea to allow canal boats to return to the river should be postponed to allow it to thrive.
