So, here we are, a further seven days in to the season and us Boro fans still scratch our heads.

To be honest, no one really expected anything from the visit to Kiddie but what a treat our boys in blue gave us. Half of us were ready for " The Alamo". Most feared "Apocolypse Now" but by 5pm on Saturday afternoon its was a case of "True Grit".

To be able to chant "We can see you sneaking out" to the fans of a team that a year ago hit the double over us was a special moment. To say the few of us that travelled were euphoric at the final whistle is an understatement to say the least. Talk about pride in your team!

One cannot end any talk of a visit to Aggborough without mentioning the catering department. Once again, the Kidderminster chefs excelled themselves. Tell me any other ground where you are tempted with such options as chicken chow mein, curry and of course the infamous cottage pie. A huge banner declared " The best food in football". None of us could argue.

The result obviously caught the imagination back home in Sussex, as by Monday, the bookings to travel by coach to Stevenage had doubled. Well, we were off to our lucky ground, where last season we upset the odds with a 3-1 win and of course the season before, when we took that step into BSP. Would the Broadhall Way gods smile on us yet again. Well, frankly, no! In fact they frowned and grimaced at the audacity that little Eastbourne fancied another upset.

In fairness, our lads that had given their all in Worcestshire had all worked the Monday then travelled up, where as Stevenage had the week end off due to some international call-ups at Wrexham. It wasn't a case of men against boys but of tired limbs versus fresh legs. It also struck me that it was harsh fixture planning that gave us two trips away in four days. Mind you, I have to say that the old adage of "if you cant stand the heat etc" holds firm, and at the end of the day we are in this league through merit and merit will keep us here!

One thing to make us smile on the long trip back. As we were trolling down the M25, a car with Boro scarves out the window pulled along side, with a haiiry bottom hanging out the rear passenger window. No one recognised the owner as it flashed past. On further investigations, all I can say is "I have seen the Shabba Moon".

Now for the first of the new seasons "Steward Watch". Both Kiddie and Stevenage can take well earned bows! Having travelled extensively in the past seasons, I can comment with some authority of the men in glowing jackets (and being one myself, I see both sides of things). Apart from the awful rip off of a £10 charge for the coach to park at Aggborough, the guys marshalling were of the highest standard and wished us all well on our departure.

Stevenage too had a good hearted bunch, and made us feel welcome. A couple behind our goal seemed to be unable to smile much, prompting the chant of "Grumpy Steward". They were simply doing their jobs but I did note that whenever the ball came over the perimeter fence both men in orange coats were more than happy to give the ball to young Oscar Peskett to throw back. Nice touch chaps! Little Oscar even had us shouting "We have a ball boy, you dont " and "Oscar, Oscar give us a wave". Under instruction from Lee, Oscar did just that!

The title of this week's rambling says "Nothing to look forward to". Quite simply, the food served up on away trips now is going to be a disappointment. The Mansfield carpetburger still haunts me from last year! With the exception of the Diamond Burger at Rushden, I think we have now sampled the finest in our last two trips. The Kiddie fare is well renowned, but mention has to be given to the half pound bacon cheeseburger at The Lamex Stadium. I honestly thought I was buying food for the entire visiting fans, there was so much crammed between the baps! Happy Meal? Oh yes, a very happy meal!

So, we welcome Chester next, for our first ever encounter. With a hell of a points deduction to claw back, you can guarantee that they will be scrapping for anything. Can we hold tight this time? Time will tell.
