A lack of funding means St Anne’s Well Garden, Hove, may not be able to continue its streak of 12 consecutive Green Flag awards as areas of it become neglected. More funding is needed before plans to replant areas of the scented garden in the park can go ahead. The Friends of St Anne’s Well Garden, which was set up last year on the garden’s centenary, are driving the campaign to raise money for the renovations and are hoping to raise £10,000 from the Big Lottery, the Co-operative Community Fund and other sources.
A spokesperson from Brighton & Hove City Council, said: “The council fully supports the Friends’ efforts to raise money which will be used to replant the area.”
St Anne’s Well Garden was awarded its 12th consecutive Green Flag Award this year, one of six in Brighton & Hove. The award is given to public parks in Britain that achieve a high standard.
Anyone interested in the running of St Anne’s Well Garden can attend the Friend’s AGM tomorrow (Thurday, October 1) at 5pm in The Garden Café.
