Because when Colin Elmer and Kirsty Harbron decided they wanted to cement their relationship - all they asked for was a brick.

The pair, who live in Hanover, are both members of Brighton’s New Venture Theatre, and decided the perfect foundation for their marriage was to adopt a brick at a charity they both support.

Miss Harbron, a drama teacher at The Weald Community School in Billingshurst, has been a member for nearly ten years.

She said: “It’s a place we both love very much, which is the most important reason when celebrating such an occasion with your friends, many of which we have met through past productions.

“We asked out guests to sponsor a brick primarily because the theatre has been kind enough in allowing us to celebrate our day here, so we wanted to give something back in return.

“People’s reactions have been wonderful, everyone thinks it’s a great idea.”

Mr Elmer joined the Listed Bedford Place theatre last year, but has been watching plays at the venue since he moved to Brighton just over three years ago.

The couple have also acted together in Festen during the Brighton Festival Fringe, which won an Argus Angel Award.

Mr Elmer, a designer for Brighton based e-Learning company, Kineo, is currently starring in Art.

The New Venture Theatre is a registered charity run by volunteers.

The amateur theatre gives people the opportunity to be involved in all areas of theatre life from box office to bar-work, to costume and set design to sound and lighting.

It also holds open auditions for its ten annual shows.
