A Gambian man who took part in a sham marriage in order to stay in the UK has been jailed for 12 months.
Larry Ogbonnaya paid his "bride" £1,350 to marry him at St Peter's Church, in St Leonards, in February 2007.
But the fake wedding was uncovered during a police investigation.
At Hove Crown Court Ogbonnaya, from London, admitted remaining the UK by deception by entering into a sham marriage.
He now faces deportation to his home country when he is released from prison.
Ann Toynbee, prosecuting, said Ogbonnaya married an Estonian woman after only a couple of meetings.
Ross Crawley, defending, said Ogbonnaya admitted he only married the woman because he wanted to stay in the country and was now remorseful.
