A pilot had a narrow escape when he crashed in a field.

The glider was found dangling inches from the ground with its nose pointing down.

It narrowly avoided overhanging electrical cables when coming into land.

Emergency services said tree branches had stopped the glider from crashing into the ground.

The aircraft, which had taken off from Parham Airfield, near Storrington, was found in a field near Hurston Lane.

The man was flying solo at the time and no-one else involved.

The incident happened about 11.30am today.

Fire crews and the air ambulance attended but the pilot, who suffered only minor injuries, refused treatment at the scene.
