Brighton and Hove City Council should allow a supermarket to be built in London Road as part of a greatly needed regeneration plan for this run-down area (The Argus, November 18).
The council quite rightly wants to encourage small and independent businesses to open up in the area but I do not think that these alone will greatly attract more regular shoppers who are greatly needed.
If there were to be a supermarket this would attract shoppers not only into the supermarket but to other shops as well.
I hope the council, when considering responses from the public and residents from a public consultation held during the summer, will reconsider the application from Tesco and maybe others when they hold their cabinet meeting on December 17.
Should a new supermarket be allowed in London Road it would greatly help eradicate crime and antisocial behaviour in the area, which appears to be of great concern to residents.
The area would become very busy, which would, I am sure, deter people from committing such behaviour.
