A paramedic has been praised after rescuing a woman from a burning house.

Jeanette Yeoell was first on the scene at the blaze in De La Warr Road, Bexhill.

She saw smoke billowing from a back bedroom window and forced open the front door to rescue the 73-year-old woman who was calling out from the end of the hall.

South East Coast Ambulance Service clinical operations manager Nigel Hammond said: “Jeanette tried to get to the woman after hearing her calling but was beaten back by the smoke.

“She then saw the silhouette of the woman on the floor at the end of the hall and ran in again to rescue her.

“I have no doubt saying that if it wasn’t for the brave actions of Jeanette, the elderly lady would not be alive now.”

The woman was taken to the Conquest Hospital in St Leonards suffering from burns to her back and legs.

Ms Yeoell was also taken to hospital on Thursday suffering from smoke inhalation.
