A human barrier was created by residents in protest about noisy delivery trucks.

Householders in Crown Street, Brighton claim vehicles to the neighbouring high street store Primark are making their lives a “living nightmare”.

They are worried about the heavy goods vehicle trucks blocking their road and creating a danger to children playing in the street.

The protest, which aimed to stop the first delivery of Saturday morning, was arranged a few days before the cut-price department store tries to treble the number of daily deliveries to its shop.

Around 25 residents turned up on Saturday but the delivery truck did not arrive.

Diana Palmer, 40, who lives in the road, said: “It was surprising it did not turn up. I suppose they decided to leave it until we went away.

“However people are very angry about this whole thing. We had a really good turnout on Saturday which shows the strength of feeling.

“I know some people were able to block a refuse truck trying to get to the store instead.”

“It’s a tiny little road and just one vehicle blocks off the road.

“Every other shop on Western Road manages to get their deliveries done from the loading bays on Western Road. I don’t understand why they have to be any different.

“A number of the other residents have been in to the shop and talk to the manager but every time they get knocked back.

“No other company would dare behave like that.”

Primark moved into the former Littlewoods site two years ago.

The firm has lodged an application with Brighton and Hove City Council to increase the number of lorries using the Crown Road entrance from two to six a day.

Despite numerous attempts, Primark did not respond to The Argus.
