Teenagers caused havoc in a park after turning up at a mass drinking session planned on Facebook.

Police were called to Hove Park to deal with up to one hundred drunken youngsters who turned up for the event.

Officers claimed the Friday night “party” had been advertised on social networking sites.

Bottles of vodka and strong lager were confiscated from the teens who were aged between 13 and 16.

More booze was found hidden or dumped in bushes by police called to the scene.

Residents worried about shouting and rowdy behaviour from the drunken youths raised the alarm.

Officers from Hove police station were sent to the park to deal with the teenagers.

At least two girls who were were taken home to their parents suffering from the effects of alcohol.

PC Graham Older said: “There were about 100 kids in the park when we got there.

“They had let each other know about it by contacting each other on Facebook.

“We got calls from residents who were concerned about what was going on.

“There were two large groups at either end of the park when we arrived.

“There was no real anti-social behaviour but it was obvious that they had been drinking.

“We confiscated a large amount of alcohol including vodka and lager from them and found more hidden in the bushes.

“Three of the girls were drunk and we are considering whether further action should be taken in their cases.”
