A landowner who turned a beauty spot into a blot on the landscape has been handed a £20,000 legal bill.
Conrad Ryder-Large sparked a flood of complaints from residents in Lindfield, near Haywards Heath.
They sent Christmas cards to their council and Mid Sussex MP Nicholas Soames complaining about old mobile homes and caravans stored at Riverside Stables.
Mid Sussex District Council took legal action against Ryder-Large ordering him to clean up the site.
Ryder-Large admitted breaching endorcement orders when he appeared at Hove Crown Court but claimed he could not remove the vehicles from his land because they were home to nesting sparrows.
The 48-year-old was ordered to pay £19,600 towards the cost of bringing the prosecution against him.
