I was issued with a hackney licence in May 2009 to ensure more wheelchair taxis are available, wheelchair access being a condition of the licence.
Some six months on I have not had any wheelchair jobs off a rank or the roadside.
I am also a member of the largest radio circuit in Brighton and Hove and have only done three wheelchair jobs during the same period.
So where is the so-called demand? Further to this I get several people a day who refuse to get in my taxi because they are less able to climb into such a big vehicle that the council makes us licence.
Not all disabled people are in a wheelchair and I think surveys do not take this into account.
