A teenager whose bull terrier savaged a man has been told she is banned from keeping dogs – apart from a chihuahua called Bubbles.

Will Thomas was badly bitten as he tried to flee from three-year-old bull terrier Bogey.

Minutes later police found the dog running out of control and jumping up trying to bite passing cars.

Owner Roxanne Devidler managed to grab the dog and bundled it into the back of a friend’s car on June 3.

A terrified passenger smashed a rear window and escaped as the dog continued to run amok inside the car.

Police were forced to use pepper spray on Bogey during an incident two years earlier but it had little effect on him.

Devidler, 19, admitted failing to control a dangerous dog and appeared at Hove Crown court for sentence yesterday.

Dale Sullivan, prosecuting, said the barmaid was involved in a confrontation with Mr Thomas, who had been in a fight with her partner Adam Hills.

Mr Thomas tried to escape to his home in Wannock Close, Bexhill, chased by the dog and a large group including Devidler.

Bogey caught up with Mr Thomas, biting him repeatedly and raking his chest with its claws.

He later needed stitches after he was bitten on the knee, arm, wrist and finger.

Mr Sullivan said: “The attack only stopped when he managed to get into the house.

He slammed the door on the dog and heard it yelping outside.”

When police arrived, one officer feared she would be bitten by Bogey and locked herself in her car.

The court heard that Devidler, a mother of one, also owned a chihuahua.

Richard Body, defending, said she was fond of Bogey but accepted he was out of control and that she would not be able to have him back.

He said she had not ordered the dog to attack Mr Thomas.

Judge Charles Kemp said he was satisfied Bogey was a danger to the public and should be destroyed.

He banned Devidler from keeping any dog other than the chihuahua for five years.

She was ordered to do 180 hours’ unpaid community work.
