Jamie Taylor's goal has given Eastbourne Borough a slender advantage at half-time at Church Road.
Taylor struck after just nine minutes when he timed his run to perfection to latch on to Joe Benjamin's clever pass and fire a low shot past Simon Overland from 12 yards.
That was Borough's only real chance of the opening 45 minutes but they have restricted the home side to only a handful of half-chances.
Craig Watkins, on his home debut, has posed the greatest threat to the Borough defence.
He got away from Dan Brown after just three minutes to cross but Sean Canham's header gave Danny Knowles a simple save.
The striker also skipped clear of Ben Austin after 24 minutes but his cross was scrambled away by Gary Elphick.
Watkins had an effort of his own two minutes later but dragged his shot well wide from the edge of the area and then turned provider again when his backheel gave Canham a sight of goal but his shot was well blocked by Elphick.
