THE double-page spread “Is there anybody there?” (The Argus, November 30) confirms that not all gulls in Brighton and Hove are of the feathered variety.

It is sad that the memory of Henry Solomon is shown disrespect by gullible ghost hunters.

It is also a pity that two pages of The Argus were devoted to promoting such nonsense.

More interesting and creditable to Brighton is the fact that a Jew was appointed to the important post of Chief Constable in the 1840s.

So was the reaction of townspeople to his murder. He was accorded an impressive funeral and a substantial sum was collected for his widow and children.
