I didn't do the mid-week session this week. It was supposed to be 30 minutes' 'cross training'. We have a strider machine thingy and I own a Wii Fit and a couple of very physical games I could have mucked about with for half an hour, but when it came down to it I couldn't really be bothered.
Yesterday evening was going to be a bit of a debauched, responsibility-free fun fest. And, to be fair, it didn't fall all that short. I was in the pub by 5.15 with some work colleagues, commemorating the demise of one of the websites we've been working on for the past couple of years. I had a lot of fun writing there and am quite sad it's gone. I paced myself, thinking I had a long night ahead of me and got a couple of glasses of wine down me in a couple of hours.
By that time, the rest of the gang were well on the way to merridom, making up alternative categories for the company's annual staff awards and things. I myself was beginning to say the wrong things about the wrong people in the wrong company and watching people's eyes glaze over, which is always a sign I should move on. So I did. I went off and had some 'food' at KFC before wandering about fairly aimlessly in search of the pub we Argus bloggers were having our monthly get-together in.
It was going to be the first time I'd actually made it to one of these things. I eventually found the pub and, once inside, managed to find the bar with consummate ease and get another glass of wine. Despite sashaying, hips akimbo, about the place a few times, looking as if I was looking for someone but didn't know who (I'm no actor, so I could just have looked like a total weirdo), I never managed to identify the group I was trying to join.
And, of course, I'm far too shy to walk up to total strangers and actually ask them. SO I eventually gave it up and headed home early.
All of which has been largely irrelevant preamble and filler, because the report on today's run is going to be pretty short, but upbeat. 40 minutes today in pretty perfect conditions. This week's weather has, generally speaking, been a vast improvement over what we've had before. Nice and clear, chilly but not painfully cold, not too windy, wet overnight but not during the day. This is the kind of winter weather I like, especially when I have no choice about being outside in it for extended periods.
Pace-wise, this is the best session I've had in quite some time. I covered 4.33 miles with relative ease and it was all highly satisfactory. 13 miles is the target for tomorrow. And, let's face it, tomorrow can only be better than last Sunday. Feeling vaguely hopeful that it will all go well. And today we're off to choose a Christmas tree! It's taken me a while this year, but I'm finally getting into the festive spirit. What I must try to do is refrain from drinking too much of it!
One way or another, I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao for now.
