A council spokeswoman has said a historic bandstand has been rusting because of heavy rainfall combined with salt spray from the sea.
Rust was first spotted on the Birdcage bandstand, in King's Road, Brighton, just a month after it reopened in July.
The 125-year-old structure was repainted but rust has started coming through the paintwork again.
On Thursday, Brighton and Hove City Council took advantage of the good weather and sent a contractor to repaint the bandstand.
A council spokeswoman said: “The council cannot alter that fact as it is a historic building that has been restored - we cannot change the material it is made from.
“Recently this has been affected by the heavy rainfall combined with salt spray from the sea. However we have used high specification paint to protect it and are rectifying the rust spot problem.”
