Two people were found hidden in the boot of a car in an immigration swoop at Newhaven ferry port.

A man and a woman from Kuwait were discovered under a blanket in a Ford Mondeo arriving from Dieppe.

The pair, who were both in their 30s, were arrested on suspicion of illegal entry to the UK on Sunday night and have since been returned to France.

The 32-year-old driver of the car, a Kuwaiti man from Manchester, and a British woman aged 37 from Cheshire, were arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry to the UK.

They were questioned and released on bail while UK Border Agency’s South East Immigration Crime Team investigate further.
