Subscriptions to newspapers, magazines and books for libraries could be cut in a bid to save a council cash.
Every library in West Sussex subscribes to at least one daily national paper, or more than one in the bigger libraries, and to local papers.
West Sussex County Council has announced proposals where three in four libraries would have their hours reduced, saving about £200,000.
As part of the review of library services, the council is expected to make a reduction of 16% on its total budget for stock - a saving of £236,000 - which includes books, newspapers, magazines and other formats.
A council spokesman said: “Before we make any decisions about how many copies of newspapers will be bought in future, we are planning a public consultation in libraries in March, so we will ask library users for their views to help us keep the best choice for each local area.”
