A former Premiership footballer turned tiler has spoken about how different the game is now compared to 19 years ago.
Anthony Barness, 36, who played for Chelsea, Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic, is now the captain of Lewes FC.
He also runs his own tiling business.
The father-of-two, of Upper Shoreham Road, Shoreham, said even though the life of a footballer was good when he started his career, it is nothing compared to the way the top-flight players are treated now.
Mr Barness, who is married to Anna, 35, started his career as an apprentice at Charlton when he was 15 and eventually got into the first-team.
He now plays part-time for Lewes FC and is their captain.
He also earns money as a tiler after deciding to take up the trade and completing a training course.
Find out what Anthony thinks of today's millionaire footballers only in today's Argus.
