Albion manager Mark McGhee today revealed he is considering bringing in a new goalkeeper ahead of the visit of Sunderland on Saturday.

The Seagulls boss has been concerned by the form of David Yelldell in the last two matches and has lined up a possible loan signing to replace him.

Yelldell impressed on his debut for Albion in the 1-1 draw at Leeds United, a day after arriving on a month's loan from Blackburn Rovers, but gifted Derby a goal in the 3-2 defeat ten days ago and looked nervous as the Seagulls went down 2-0 at Cardiff on Saturday.

With Michel Kuipers ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery and Ben Roberts due to make a comeback from back trouble for the reserves today it leaves Chris May as the only alternative to Yelldell.

May made his debut when he replaced the injured Kuipers for the last few minutes against Nottingham Forest but McGhee is worried about throwing the 19-year-old in at the deep end against the free- scoring Black Cats.

McGhee said: "Losing Michel Kuipers has been a big blow for us. David played brilliantly against Leeds but has looked nervous in the last two games.

"He was not at fault for either of the goals at Cardiff but his performance was not as good as he would have hoped and his kicking was poor.

"It is not a major issue but we will have to see whether David can recover his confidence before the weekend. If we can't sort him out then we will need to put someone else in.

"Chris is inexperienced and I don't think he is ready for the first team yet but if there is no other option then we would have to go with him."

Roberts was not expected to be fit to play again until April but has responded to treatment better than expected. He is due to play for the reserves at Northampton along with Chris McPhee, who has recovered from a broken bone is his foot.

Even if Roberts comes through unscathed McGhee would not be willing to risk him against Sunderland, while the Albion boss has also ruled out handing former Arsenal keeper Rami Shaaban a surprise debut.

"Rami is training with us this week and then we will see if we want to take things further," said McGhee. "But he hasn't played any games for a long time so he is not an option for Saturday."

Portsmouth goalkeeper Shaka Hislop is one goalkeeper currently looking for a new club.

Reserves: Roberts, Watson, El-Abd, Mountford, Rents, Cox, Hammond, Carey, Robinson, Gatting, Jarrett.
