Worthing Thunder know they are capable of ending the only unbeaten record in EBL division one tonight.

Thunder host London United (8pm), the team built around a strong Polish contingent who have won eight out of eight in the league this season.

By contrast, last week's 127-105 mauling of lowly Kingston leaves Thunder with a more modest 5-4 record.

They did, however beat United 102-89 in a National Cup tie earlier this season.

In division three east, Bognor Pirates are upbeat, despite losing 72-65 to leaders Westside.

Oli Roche hit 22 points and Dave Turner 13 as Pirates matched their opponents for all but the third quarter, when a zone defence caused them problems. Pirates host Reading today (4.30pm).

Richard Midgley hit another career best, firing 28 points as California Golden Bears beat Fairleigh Dickinson 80-66.

The tally topped the 26 he set just two weeks previously and included six-for-nine three-point shooting, plus five-for-six from two-point range.

Midgley, from Burgess Hill, is shooting at 62 per cent from outside the arc this season, despite going two-for-nine in a 63-60 home defeat to Colorado.

One of those successes came on the buzzer to take him to 14 points.

Even in defeat, there was further evidence of the reputation Midgley is building for himself in his third year of top-flight American college basketball.

Colorado guard Marcus Hall revealed: "Coach stressed to us that Midgley was the only one looking for a perimeter shot. Every time he caught the ball we were nervous."

Midgley's brother Danny had eight points and four rebounds for Maine Machias in a 117-49 mauling of Bethany Bible.

Andy Smith, from Littlehampton, was one-of-three from three-point range and two-of-four from the line for five points as he helped Bentley beat Merrimack 68-61.
