(Cert PG, 95mins): Starring Jon Heder, Jon Gries, Aaron Ruell and Tina Majorino. Directed by Jared Hess.

If this oddball indie movie is anything to go by, the geeks are about to inherit the Earth.

High school misfit Napoleon Dynamite (Heder) lives in the small town of Preston, Idaho, with his internet-obsessed older brother Kip (Ruell) and fragile grandmother (Sandy Martin).

Napoleon's sad life of man-made fibres and laughable martial arts moves is turned upside down with the arrival of Uncle Rico (Gries), a womanizing door-to-door salesman who takes Kip under his wing, plying his low-quality tupperware goods to the community.

Napoleon is bullied mercilessly at school but finds one loyal friend in Pedro (Efren Ramirez), a lonely Latino who stands against the most popular guy in school for Class President.

With Napoleon's expert help, Pedro looks certain to secure at least two votes.

Unrelentingly poking fun at brainiacs, goofballs and sad sacks the world over, this cruel but undeniably hilarious effort worryingly makes nerds into icons of cool.
