Guy Butters revealed today his dismay at the exclusion of fellow Albion defender Adam Hinshelwood from the England under-21 squad.

The Seagulls' Dan Harding and West Ham's on-loan defender Calum Davenport are in the squad named by former Albion manager Peter Taylor for tonight's friendly in Spain.

Hinshelwood, outstanding in Saturday's shock 1-0 win at Upton Park, has missed out after he was called up for the first time and found himself on the bench for matches last month against Wales and Azerbaijan.

Butters, Albion's goalscorer at Upton Park and an ex-England under-21 international, said: "I feel sorry for him. I cannot believe he has not been included.

"West Ham have got a lad playing for them who is in the squad (Davenport) and if Hinsh wasn't better than him on Saturday then I'm a Dutchman.

"Peter Taylor cannot make it to all the games, but Hinsh has been brilliant all this season. He has got a great future."

Albion boss Mark McGhee said: "I understand why Adam has been left out. He has been playing in different positions and they are obviously looking at people in certain positions and have other players.

"I think the fact he has been there once is great. That's a start for him and they won't have forgotten him, that's for sure.

"Hinsh has performed like he did on Saturday in whatever position we've asked him to play."

Goalkeeper Ben Roberts and Kerry Mayo, both unused subs at West Ham, are in the Reserves away to Queens Park Rangers today (2pm).
