Albion have done a U-turn over plans to appeal against Adam Virgo's red card at West Ham.

The Seagulls have now decided against taking the matter any further, so Virgo will be banned for the next three matches.

Albion were intending to dispute Virgo's straight dismissal following a tackle on Hayden Mullins and fracas with the West Ham right back.

The incident developed into a confrontation involving several players from both sides during Saturday's shock 1-0 win for Albion at Upton Park.

Manager Mark McGhee said today: "We have decided not to appeal because the procedure gives us no chance of success.

"It is not a case of a personal hearing or the referee taking another look.

"The video is sent in for somebody independent at the FA to look at and that does not show clearly enough that Virgs was just protecting himself.

Mullins may still appeal.

"The ref said he sent me off for throwing punches, but I didn't," claimed the Hammers defender.

Virgo's suspension for Saturday's home game against Burnley, the visit to Ipswich a week later and the game against rock-bottom Rotherham at Withdean on December 4 is likely to intensify Albion's interest in Millwall centre forward Mark McCammon.

The Argus exclusively revealed yesterday that Millwall are prepared to let the powerfully built 26-year-old join the Seagull's on a month's loan.

Meanwhile, McCammon's former Millwall team-mate Steve Claridge today revealed the eventful build-up to his Albion debut at West Ham.

The 38-year-old striker said: "I was meant to meet the team coach somewhere between Brighton and London, but there was an accident on the motorway.

"I missed it and had to park at Woking, get the train to Waterloo and then the tube and taxi to the team hotel.

"I got clamped at Woking because I forgot to get a parking ticket."
