I notice you often get letters from readers criticising the airport at Shoreham.

I love the airport and think it's a great asset to the area, which I walk practically every day with my dog. As I walk the embankment on the eastern side of the airport, I enjoy the lovely scenery, looking and admiring the birds.

I love watching all kinds of aircraft taking off and landing. How I wish I could afford to fly one of those aircraft. Unfortunately, as I am over 80, that has passed me by.

However, I would like to see some improvements to the outer edges at the airport. For instance, get rid of those awful steps at the south east corner by the railway bridge and that railway sleeper on the pathway at the top of the steps and put in a ramp to make it easy for people with wheelchairs and prams.

I would like to see improvements to the path from the children's playground to the airport. Another improvement could be made to the embankment to the east of the airport. It should be wider and levelled.

It would also be great to park our cars at Adur Rec and walk to the airport. We would save petrol and not pollute the air. At present, we have to drive all the way to the by-pass to get to the terminal buildings.

In response to KJ Simmons (Letters, July 24), I live within the sound area of Shoreham Airport and the sound of an occasional passing aircraft is less annoying than the behaviour of football fans.

For a number of years, I lived in Frith Road, Hove, and was glad when I managed to leave the area near the old Goldstone ground.
