Albion want to give Maheta Molango a professional contract as a birthday present this week.

Congo international Molango, 22 on Saturday, has impressed on trial and scored three goals in friendly wins against Woking and Crawley.

Seagulls boss Mark McGhee said: "We definitely want to sign Maheta. I will be talking to his representatives and, hopefully, we can finalise a deal over the next couple of days.

"He has youth, energy, enthusiasm and can score goals. He's been good in training. He is fit, athletic, six foot and looks as though he's got a lot of potential."

Molango, holder of two international caps, has been with German side Wacker Burghansen in the Bundesliga division two.

He joined them after two years at Atletico Madrid where he played for the Spanish club's third and reserve teams. Molango started his career in Switzerland at division three side Biel-Bienne. He is Swiss-born of a Congolese father and Italian mother.

McGhee is undecided about a second trialist, the Hungarian forward Zsombor Kerekes, 30, who started the matches against Woking and Crawley. But he will not pursue his interest in striker Ibrahim Tankary, 32, from Niger.

He said: "We've decided against Tankary because we were unable to see enough of him to be sure that at his age he had the legs for the First Division."

Albion are at Conference club Weymouth tomorrow night.
