I recently contacted West Sussex County Council's Highway department regarding cycle lanes, in particular one which regularly has cars parked in it and more recently a builder's skip.

They informed me that if this or any other such area has been marked with broken lines as opposed to unbroken lines, it is legal to park cars or anything else there.

If we cyclists have to rely on this then what is the point in marking out cycle lanes in the first place, or is it just another way of wasting people's money? I might add that many of these cycle lanes are on busy A roads.
