Now the West Pier concert hall is fully detached from the land, I know I don't need to suggest it be left as a monument, since clearly nothing will be done and it will stay there until it falls into the sea.

However, it does stand as a clear symbol of neglect by both local and national government, hiving off responsibility when it is needed and interfering when it is not.

So let it stand there, a striking embodiment of the bare bones of our national health, transport, education, mail and communication systems.

In short, the perfect monument to Thatcherism - detached, aloof - and very rusty.
