Has anyone sat back and asked the question "How could the West Pier be allowed to collapse into the sea after 30 years of neglect?"
What other country in the world would dither over a national architectural gem?
If different governments over that period cannot uphold the concept of grade 1 listed status and fund restoration, why not let the private sector take over while it is still a viable option?
The tangle of broken metal now causing a maritime hazard is a perfect reflection of the way various governments, councils and the well intended, but ineffective, West Pier Trust have managed the whole affair.
A miserable failure.
