Emily Goodhall qualified for her second English Schools Championships of the season when she came sixth in the Regional Combined Events at Southampton on Sunday.

The Oathall Community College pupil piled up 3,492 points in her first competitive heptathlon to claim one of the qualifying spots for the national final in Exeter in September.

Goodhall, of Crawley AC, has already booked her place in the 800m at the English Schools Championships at Gateshead next weekend and showed she is in top form at her favourite distance by winning at Southampton in a time of 2min.17sec.

Anthony Shurmer, of Chichester Runners, also secured his place in the English Schools Championships after winning silver in the under-15 pentathlon.

Brighton and Hove AC remained in contention for promotion to the premier division of the National Young Athletes League despite being narrowly beaten by hosts at Radley.

Sprinter Jah Campbell was the star, winning the under-17 100m (11.8sec) and coming second in the 200m (23.7sec) as Brighton finished just four points behind Radley. Worthing were third.

The result keeps Brighton in the second promotion spot in southern division one west behind Wycombe Phoenix who beat Chichester Runners into second place in their match on the Isle of Wight.

Harvey Byrne equalled his personal best of 11.7sec when winning the 100m and followed up with triumphs in the 200m and shot before leading the sprint relay team to victory.

Lewes and Hastings were no match for the top top sides in southern division one east and had to battle it out for third place behind Basildon and Cambridge. Home club Lewes eventually came out on top by just six points.

Crawley look likely to drop out of the premier division after they finished last in their match to remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

Eastbourne stayed top of southern division two south east despite being pushed into second place in their match by nearest rivals South London Harriers while East Grinstead were third.
