I was horrified to read that the police are trying to force their female officers to become gun-proficient, (The Argus, June 3).
Evidently they have fallen for the Blairite, pro-USA nonsense that 'Terrorism' justifies this undemocratic escalation of armed uniform violence.
Research conducted inside the USA by the US National Handgun Control Association, founded by shot Reagan presidential aide Brady, shows that in incidents where police use guns, fatalities are the more likely consequences for civilians, just as much as by violent gun criminals. Guns cause violence by ricochet effect.
It is incredible in the light of this escalation of police gun terror that Gatwick and other Sussex police activity now seek to arm further our admirable, largely unarmed, police forces. It is building a trigger-happy society.
Statistically, we are still less violent in Europe and Sussex than the USA.
