Co-op shoppers in Sussex will collect £575,000 as part of a massive bank holiday loyalty card pay out.

One shopper in Hailsham will pocket £193 while a dividend cardholder in Heathfield receives £188 and a Worthing customer scoops £180.

Across the UK, the Co-operative Group will pay out a spring record of £15.6 million to cardholders and about £552,000 to good causes.

The record payments follow last month's announcement that the farms-to-finance and funerals-to-food group had lifted its full-year operating profits to £327.3 million.

Martin Hill, the group's chief officer in the South-East, said: "The Co-op dividend scheme is an important way of rewarding our customers for their custom."

Dividend cardholders earn cash back on all their purchases and it is the only loyalty card to offer a cash return.

Community groups and charities in Sussex will receive £24,000 through the scheme, which lets shoppers donate cash to good causes.
