John Evans (Letters, May 18) is right that you can't sensibly both allow and encourage car rallies which end in Brighton and at the same time make it difficult for cars to enter the city, move around or park.

One partial solution would be to suspend most of the parking schemes on Sundays.

At present, there are areas of the city (such as Zone R in Hove) which on Sundays look as if they have been evacuated in anticipation of a terrorist attack.

It would be far better to allow visitors to park there, a short distance from the seafront.

It would improve traffic flow and be good for business, with visitors walking past a wider range of shops and restaurants after parking their cars.

The only difficulty I can foresee is that National Car Parks, as the park and fine franchise holders, might seek compensation for loss of income.
