Last Sunday, when I returned home and tried to park nearby I fell victim to the mini-car rally in Marine Parade. There was simply nowhere to park and I ended up parking in Queens Park.

As a long-standing resident of Brighton, I did not particularly mind. The town, sorry City, depends on visitors for its prosperity and diversity so this is the price we have to pay.

In fact, I admired the visitors for their stamina in getting to Brighton through the road "improvements", speed cameras and other obstacles with which the authorities try to discourage visitors from coming here.

However, while this was an acceptable occasional difficulty, I wonder what will happen if the proposed ice rink is built at Black Rock?

Where are 15,000 people going to park every evening and weekend?

Okay, so even if 75 per cent of them walk or come by the as-yet undefined public transport system, that still leaves well over 3,000 people trying to find somewhere to park.

As this will usually be evenings and weekends, it will paralyse Kemp Town and cause further security problems in a residential area with hundreds of people milling around trying to get buses, cars or walk home.

When the council gave outline planning permission for the ice rink, no doubt it had thought this one through and has a cunning plan which will surprise us all.
