UK premiere, Concert Hall, Brighton Dome, Tuesday May 18

If you saw Ballet Preljocaj's sell-out Rite Of Spring at the Festival two years ago and liked it, you'll love this.

The UK premiere of the company's latest ballet is just as erotic.

A quest into different states of the body, it explores the places we arrive at when we teeter on the edge of existence, for instance, in moments of fainting, during a trance, in an instant of ecstacy or in orgasm.

Near Life Experience attempts to evoke the sensation of rapture and ravishment where the individual is carried off - or becomes ravished.

A sort of eclipse of the self, it is a quest through the imaginary, a new expression in the space left by the body. A collision of the physical and spiritual, the piece oozes ambient atmosphere, an achievement aided by French masters of chill-out, Air.

Recent visitors to the Dome, their hits include Sexy Boy from the album Moon Safari in 1998 and the acclaimed soundtrack for Sofia Coppola's film, The Virgin Suicides.

This signalled their ambitions to explore other artistic horizons outside of pop music - which led them to plunge into the world of Ballet Preljocaj.

Born of Albanian parents, Anglelin Preljocaj created Ballet Preljocaj in 1984, which is now composed of 25 dancers, 11 of whom perform here.

The company has produced many prize-winning pieces and Angelin is now among a select group of European choreographers who are respected internationally.
