Applying for a job over the internet makes it less likely that candidates will face race discrimination, according to a report published today.

A survey of 4,000 people by recruitment web site reed.co.uk found that many believed online job-seeking promoted equality.

Recruiters would be less likely to be distracted by a person's race when applications were made electronically, the poll found.

Two-thirds of those questioned said they believed racism in the workplace had declined over the last ten years, although one in five said they feared meeting racial prejudice when applying for a job.
