Kendrick Warren and his Brighton Bears colleagues do not want to go on holiday just yet.

They are having too much fun proving themselves the best in the country.

Bears rounded off their glorious league campaign in style last night with a 95-71 thrashing of second-placed Sheffield Sharks at the Brighton Centre.

The result and performance made for an upbeat occasion to send Bears into Saturday's play-off quarter-final with Milton Keynes Lions at the same venue (6pm).

Bears began the night with a banner-raising ceremony to honour not just the current champions but also all-time greats Alan Cunningham, Steve Nelson, Colin Irish and Billy Hungrecker and ended it posing one more time with the BBL silverware.

Irish was unable to attend the game but the three other Bears legends swapped high fives in the centre of the court just like old times.

Then they left the way clear for their successors to turn on a stylish display of ball handling, shooting and fast break offence to delight the home crowd.

It was stunning stuff as Bears built on a 38-36 half-time lead by scoring 15 points in less than three minutes to open the third quarter.

Warren, whose spin move and three-pointer helped wipe out Sheffield's only lead of the night late in the second quarter, enjoyed putting on a show.

He said: "At this time of year it comes down to who wants to play. It's time to go home, its warm outside, people can lose their focus but we want to stay here for the long run.

"We played well. We got back to pushing the ball up the court and having the whole team makes a difference."

The return of Rico Alderson and Tom Frederick helped, with Nick Nurse back to run things from the sideline.

Nurse was cheering and punching the air at times as all nine players scored.

That's right, nine. Randy Duck, whose presence on court caused such controversy on Sunday was given 14 minutes and got some welcome points with a third-quarter drive.

Nurse said: "I thought we were really sharp moving the ball. I was impressed with the way we were passing. I had so many guys to pick from and all those guys gave us something.

"Randy is a lot further along than I dreamed he would be and hopefully I can get him 10-12 minutes on Saturday."

It was hard to believe Bears had been 34-29 adrift with 3:40 to play in the first half.

Frederick had a nice baseline drive in the second quarter and Andrew Alleyne a super three-point play from Yorick Williams' clever pass but the showtime stuff really came in the second half.

Sullivan Phillips, Alderson and Brown took it in turns to fire bullet passes to the open man, but the moment which really got Nurse cheering came as Alleyne defied the odds to grab an offensive rebound and Brown hit one of his five threes to stretch the lead to double figures.

Brown also struck from range to finish the play of the night, this time a bewildering exchange of passes opening the way after Jason Siemon had laid the foundation with a strong defensive rebound.
