The deadline for objections to the proposed Endeavour site development is this Friday.

I would like to ask those councillors who will be deliberating if they have fully considered the implications of their own special planning guidance document for tall buildings policy published on the council web site.

Section QD4, covering the strategic impact of such buildings, says: "Development that has a detrimental impact and impairs a view even briefly due to its appearance, by wholly obscuring it or being out of context with it will not be permitted."

It then lists features of strategic importance that must not be affected by tall buildings.

They include: d) views across valleys; e) views into and from within conservation areas; f) listed buildings and well known landmark buildings of townscape merit; g) vistas along avenues, boulevards etc; h) initial views of Brighton and Hove from access points by all means of transport.

Since the Endeavour site impinges on d) the valley along Preston park, e) the area just behind it is a conservation area, f) the railway viaduct, g) London Road, h) initial views by car etc along London Road and by rail along the viaduct, it is clear this project should not be permitted in its present form.
