Councillor Gerry Kielty is altogether too glib in trying to avoid the Brighton and Hove City Council's responsibility by blaming the BBC for its shortcomings in failing to exercise proper control and supervision of care agencies (Letters, November 27).
Clearly "vigorous monitoring" was not exercised before the Panorama was screened or the programme would not have been necessary.
I think the BBC performed a public service and weasel words will not alter the fact.
The council must display more awareness, giving us concrete evidence that it will take its duties more seriously in future.
