People in Brighton appear to love lingerie and wine according to a nation-wide poll on the most popular and useful inventions.

Honda has launched the survey to find which everyday object people appreciate most.

A quarter of those polled in Brighton voted for the bra, compared to just five per cent across the South-East.

More than a third in Brighton opted for the corkscrew, which featured low on Londoners' lists of preferences.

People are being asked to choose from a shortlist of ten items, also including the ballpoint pen, the stapler, the teabag, the tap, the zip, the lightbulb, the can opener and the toilet.

Photographer David Bailey has cast his vote for the zip, while the corkscrew's celebrity supporters include TV presenter Lowri Turner.

People have until Friday to cast their votes at www.everydaygenius.co.uk The winner will be announced the following day.
