Former Albion boss Peter Taylor has abandoned his interest in signing car crash victim Michel Kuipers.

Hull chief Taylor refuses to pay a fee for the Seagulls' Dutch goalkeeper, who suffered minor head injuries in an accident on his way to training on Thursday.

The Argus revealed that Albion have rejected a cheeky bid by Hull to pinch Kuipers on a free transfer.

Taylor said: "As far as I'm concerned it's dead and buried. I am interested in Michel, but I'm not prepared to pay a fee and I think they are just messing me about. I've already moved on to other goalkeeping targets."

One of them is Charlton's Simon Royce, signed on loan by Taylor when he was in charge of the Seagulls.

Albion manager Mark McGhee said: "That's fine. I'm comfortable about the situation. I think we are entitled to ask for a fee for Michel."

Goalkeeping coach John Keeley, 42, will be on the bench at Notts County on Saturday as cover for Ben Roberts.

McGhee is then poised to re-sign youngster Ross Flitney on loan from Fulham while Kuipers recovers from his injuries.

McGhee said: "He has some nasty cuts and bruises and will be sore for goodness knows how long. He is in shock as well, but he has no major injuries. He has been a very lucky boy.

"I have no idea how long he is going to be out. We will assess that at the beginning of next week. He will have to get over the shock.

"Tomorrow I will take John Keeley. Beyond that I will be looking to loan a keeper. The problem is it will have to be someone who probably won't be playing. The lad from Fulham (Flitney) could be an option because he did okay here."

McGhee has ruled out a move for Burgess Hill based defender Matt Lawrence from his old club Millwall.

"Matt is an obvious connection because he is local and apparently there was a bit of interest in him before I got here," McGhee said.

"At the moment I have got two rightbacks, Adam Hinshelwood and Paul Watson. I think both of them are more than adequate for the division. Matt would be a luxury we cannot afford."

McGhee confirmed today that Nathan Jones will be recalled to the left of midfield for the trip and John Piercy will start on the right.

Travelling Albion fans should take junction 25 off the M1 for the ground tomorrow as junction 24 is closed over the weekend.
