A bunch of unemployed truckers stomped on stage looking like they had just enjoyed their fill of beer and grits at some mid-West diner.

They were Ten Benson, purveyors of the kind of loud, fast and hard rock the popularity of which has seen the likes of Kerrang music magazine fly off newsagents' shelves recently.

String-vest and baseball cap-clad to a man, the band simply oozed Americana but, unlike those authentic rednecks Kings Of Leon, these guys were born off the M25 rather than Route 66.

They followed in the same current as AC/DC, their Britishness somehow allowing them to appear more American than the most fatty apple pie, creating a sound so dirty not even Fairy Liquid could shift the stains.

Songs like Robot Tourist and new tune Third Eye pounded upon the audience, with drummer Andy "The Zamm" Zammit battering away behind the savage guitars of frontman Chris Teckkam and Paul "The Claw" Summers.

The guys' enthusiasm and presence allowed them to fill a half-empty venue to the rafters.

Perhaps, like the aforementioned Kings, they would be better adding a bit of groove to the head thrashing and foot stamping.

They may lack a little roll but Ten Benson certainly know how to rock.
