Care in the community came to an abrupt end when Brighton and Hove City Council shed numerous jobs with redundancy packages at great expense when it decided agencies could do the job more cheaply.
Social services carers were trained, dedicated and loyal and, most of all, they cared.
It's typical of the council to spend money training staff at great expense just to let them go.
Six years ago Brighton and Hove had one of the best workforces around.
