Albion manager Mark McGhee today made a double swoop for two young midfielders from Premiership clubs.

McGhee is signing 18-year-old Dubliner Mark Yeates on a month's loan from Spurs.

The formalities of Yeates' move were due to be completed after he trained with his new team-mates at Withdean today.

The Seagulls have also agreed to re-sign Zesh Rehman, 20, on loan from Fulham to boost their faltering promotion challenge.

McGhee hopes to land Rehman for the rest of the season. Together with Yeates he is expected to go straight into the team for McGhee's first home League match in charge against Bristol City on Saturday.

Yeates, who can also play up front, is highly regarded at White Hart Lane.

The Republic of Ireland youth international, a target for QPR earlier in the season, was on the bench for Spurs' Premiership fixture at Middlesbrough in May.

He scored three goals in as many starts for the reserves last season and nine in 29 games for the under-19s.

McGhee said: "He's a player I have admired for a while. A few clubs have been after him, so we are lucky to get him.

"He hasn't got much experience but, together with Zesh, I think they will add quality to our midfield."

Rehman was signed for a month in September by McGhee's predecessor Steve Coppell.

He scored on his debut at Rushden and Diamonds and again in the home game against Grimsby two games later.

McGhee wanted to keep Rehman but he was recalled by Fulham because of an injury crisis which has now eased.

McGhee, deprived of the services of long-term injury victims Simon Rodger and Charlie Oatway, has been forced to play Robbie Pethick in midfield since Rehman's departure.

He still intends to sign a striker on loan as well to provide competition and cover for the 20-goal partnership of Leon Knight and Chris McPhee.

Albion were giving a reserve team debut today to 16-year-old goalkeeper Richard Martin from St Paul's Catholic School, Haywards Heath, in the match at Millwall (2pm).

Ben Roberts is still recovering from a back-related hamstring injury and Chris May played in the FA Youth Cup last night.
