Firefighters were called to a flat to deal with a man who had set fire to his own clothing.
Crews attended the property in Buckingham Road, Brighton, at 2pm yesterday.
The man suffered burns to his lower leg after the bottom of his track suit melted.
Firefighters tried to treat his wounds but the man refused their help. He was taken to hospital.
