A festival will recreate the magic of 30 years ago, when Abba's Eurovision Song Contest win at the Brighton Dome catapulted them to worldwide fame.

The streets will be awash with dancing queens and super troupers at the Abba Fest 2004.

The three-day festival, sponsored by The Argus, will be a celebration of Benny, Bjorn, Agnetha and Frida and all things Abba.

An annual convention of Abba maniacs is relocating from Holland to Brighton for the big event.

Other highlights include a concert by acclaimed tribute act Bjorn Again, supported by other Seventies greats including Leo Sayer and Showaddywaddy and DJs David Hamilton and Tony Blackburn.

Leo said: "This looks like being a festival that embraces everyone. Abba have been a milestone in music culture and this event will pay homage to their music."

Abba were one of the first entries into the Walk Of Fame at Brighton Marina and they remain icons in the city where they first shot to stardom.

Organiser David Courtney, the Walk Of Fame founder, said he hoped people of all ages would get involved in Abba Fest.

He said: "At least 1,000 people from all over the world attend the annual convention. We'll have the Brighton Centre for the whole of June 12.

"There will be keynote speakers, costumes, a lunchtime cabaret and memorabilia.

"In the evening, Bjorn Again will be headlining with other Seventies artists."

The event is scheduled for Friday June 11 to Sunday June 13.

Further concerts are being organised around the city and Mr Courtney said he hoped to evoke the spirit of 1974.

Abba Fest could evolve into an annual celebration of part of the resort's heritage.

A website publicising the event will be running shortly, with ticket hotlines and official merchandising in the pipeline.
