Eastbourne Town went fourth in County League division one after a 2-0 win at home to fellow challengers Horsham YMCA.

Town boss Dave Winterton said: "It is a very open league. I would love us to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season but we are a young side and with that you get inconsistency.

"The side who has got the resources and can go out and get the better players will stand more of a chance. Clubs like ourselves and Horsham YMCA don't have the money to attract the top quality players."

Yemi Odubade and Lee Walsh got the goals for Town.

Chichester went three points clear at the top after a 4-0 win at home to bottom side Shoreham. Steve Leigh scored twice, one a penalty, while Neil Murfin and Paul Jones also found the net.

Manager Adie Girdler said: "After two draws, which I was happy with, it was nice to return to winning ways."

Mickey Turner scored a hat-trick as Hassocks won 4-0 at Selsey to go third in the table.

In doing so Turner, who had notched just once previously for the Robins this season, brought up 50 career goals for the club. Anthony Hibbert also scored while Selsey had skipper Alun Morey dismissed for two yellow cards.

Whitehawk and St Leonards drew 0-0 at East Brighton Park.

Hawks boss Ian Chapman said: "They had one really good chance while we had two or three. They probably felt they deserved a draw while I felt we edged it.

"That is four league games unbeaten for us now. It is notable that since Ollie Rowland joined us we have played better."

Hailsham drew 1-1 at home to Ringmer despite playing with ten men for the last half-hour.

Graham Overton gave the hosts a 48th minute lead with a header from a Tobi Hutchinson free kick but Hutchinson was sent off shortly after for protesting about Matt Beeston's equaliser.

Hailsham stand-in boss and chairman Steve Richardson said: "We battled so hard that we should have won the game. If we'd had 11 I think we would have."
