Bognor had to be content with a share of the spoils after being held at home by St Albans.

Returning to league action after their recent cup adventures, Bognor produced some impressive football against their mid-table opponents in the first half to impress manager Jack Pearce.

Pearce said: "I was very pleased with the first half performance.

"We played some sparkling stuff and scored two goals, which should have been enough to secure us the win.

"However, we gave away a sloppy goal and allowed them back into the game in the second period."

The Rocks should have had the game sewn up in the opening 45 minutes but despite dominating chances they only scored twice.

Bognor took the lead in the 11th minute when David Piper's fierce low effort cannoned into the path of Matt Russell, who had the simplest of tasks to steer home his 100th goal for the Rocks.

The visitors equalised in the 19th minute when Simon Martin dived full length to head home after Jay Murray's initial effort had been pushed on to the bar by Craig Stoner.

The Rocks regained the lead in the 24th minute when David Birmingham's drilled, low cross was diverted by Derek Brown past his own keeper Wesley Jackman.

Bognor had chances to extend their lead before the break but Rob Collins was denied by Jackman, then placed another effort the wrong side of a post before Russell went close again.

The Saints equalised for the second time in the 56th minute when Scott Oakes' cross to the back post was rifled back across goal by Chris Seeby and turned home from close range by Murray.

Russell thought he had given Bognor the lead for a third time but was thwarted by the referee's assistant.

Rocks keeper Stoner clawed away an effort by Martin soon after while both sides had chances to win it late in the game.

Bognor's Lou Savage was denied by Michael De Souza and Jamie Richards hit the woodwork.
