Your news item "Tenants get to know the options" (The Argus, November 10) described Solon Community Network as being an "independent advisor" to the tenants of Brighton and Hove City Council.

Solon was indeed appointed as adviser but it is not independent, being owned by one of the country's largest housing associations - Network Housing Group, whose chief executive earns even more than the council's chief executive David Panter.

Indeed, the more properties such landlords take over, the higher their senior staff salaries tend to climb.

Very few tenants - who are paying Solon's substantial fees out of their rents and service charges - knew these facts when it was decided who should be appointed on their behalf.
